Since 1953, the Akron Sports Car Club has been a major part of the automotive scene in the North East Ohio area. National recognized in television, radio, newspapers and magazines as one of the countries premier car clubs, the ASCC has it all. It’s has produced many National driving champions in both road race and autocross, professional drivers, test drivers, commercial spot drivers and product evaluators.

The club has evolved and changed of the years. First being just a social gathering group for people with European cars in the beginning. Moving onto a more wide range of car types and starting organized events in the 60’s running at places like Barberton Speedway and Akron Fulton Airport with the SCCA. Through the 70’s and 80’s rally events started and a social “off season” which included bowling tournaments, Cleveland Car Show, dinner parties at new local restaurants.

At its peak during the early to mid 90’s, ASCC was filling the Goodyear Tech Center parking lots with Autocross events averaging 175 drivers, sometimes breaking the 200 mark. The loss of the facility do to the new construction moved the events out of the Akron area to Northfield park. There the auto crossing continued to flourish with lots of corporate sponsorship coming in from various tire manufacturers along with Brake and Suspension sponsorship. The highlight of the season was the July 4th Challenge where over $10,000 in prizes were handed out.
Again with more expansion and construction at Northfield, the ASCC had to move its home to the old Geuage Lake parking lot. There we put on some of the biggest and best autocross in the country. Average lap times where topping the 2 minute mark compared to an average 45sec autocross run…
